The Golden Triangle

The strange thing about The Golden Triangle in Chiang Rai Province, Northern Thailand, is there is nothing there. Once the largest producer of opium in the world, the area has become known as "Thailand's Largest Tourist Trap" with thousands of visitors coming to the meeting of Laos, Myanmar and Thailand.

However the surrounding countryside with rolling hills and both the Mekong and Ruak Rivers makes for a wonderfully tranquil and relaxing break. The Four Seasons Tented Camp, once voted the best resort in the world, and 'Serene' located on the river both make ideal bases for exploring the area by elephant, motorbike or longtail boat.
