Con Dao
185km from Vung Tau's coast, Con Dau is made up of 16 islands and islets.
Notorious for its horrific jails built by the French, it is now famous for its untouched natural beauty, diverse wildlife and deserted beaches.
One of Vietnam's heroines, Vo Thi Sau, was incarcerated here aged just 14 after blowing up a troop of French soldiers. She was not shot until she was 19, the first woman to be killed on the island.
There is very little to do here after sunset but that's why you're here...
